L'anima del filosofo

Joseph Haydn

In March 2020, University College Opera returns with a new production. Haydn's last and only post-Esterházy opera, L'anima del filosofo (Orfeo ed Euridice). Follow UCOpera's descent to the underworld to witness Orfeo's journey rescuing his beloved wife, Euridice. Will he be able to resist the temptation of looking back at her, before exiting Plutone's world?

Performances: 23rd, 25th, 27th and 28th March 2020, Bloomsbury Theatre

Solo opportunities

We are looking for members of the UCL community to take up solo roles in our 2020 production of Haydn's L'anima del filosofo. This exciting opportunity is open to all students (undergrad and postgrad) and staff members.

We are looking for all voice types.

  • Auditions for student roles will take place on 1st November. Booking is now open.
  • The student roles are a very manageable size, and you will still be able to participate in chorus
  • Please prepare two operatic pieces in Italian to be sung by heart. Please also bring scores for the accompanist to the audition.
  • Auditions are held individually in the presence of UC Opera's Musical Director (Charles Peebles), an observer from the Society committee to ensure a fair auditioning process, as well as an accompanist. The final decision lies with the Musical Director.
  • We will be running a pronunciation workshop on 24th October (1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, Room 204 Bloomsbury Theatre) with a native speaker and linguist
